Usability: consistency
The overall design of a company intranet should
be consistent throughout all levels and departments. In order
for an intranet to be consistent, an intranet designer or
design team should create the design of the intranet, developing
templates for departments to use. Individual departments can
have the freedom to create and maintain the content, using
the already created templates for the design.
When the main level of an intranet is professionally
designed but individual departments have the freedom to design
their own sections, the intranet loses consistency and becomes
more difficult to navigate, making it harder to find needed
information.
